RAVEN Frontman Talks About Band's Influence On IRON MAIDEN, METALLICA
December 19, 2005In a recent fan posting on RAVEN's official message board, the band's frontman John Gallagher was asked about RAVEN's influence on other metal bands and whether he was aware that VOIVOD performed RAVEN's "Chainsaw" at their first-ever concert in early 1984.
"Piggy's [VOIVOD guitarist] passing was sad," Gallagher wrote. "I did hear they were RAVEN fans but heard it in a crappy way — we were trying to get an opening slot on a tour — (any tour!) back in 1989 and we were up for what became the VOIVOD/SOUNDGARDEN/FAITH NO MORE tour. We were told that VOIVOD's stance was, 'We like RAVEN but they are not cool anymore.' Of course, I heard this third-hand and will take the high road...
"Anyone ever listen to the middle of 'Aces High' by IRON MAIDEN and compare it to part of 'Faster than the Speed of Light' [by RAVEN]? How about the chorus riff of METALLICA's 'No Remorse' to 'Lambs to the Slaughter'??
"Makes me laugh...!"
In other news, a few photos from RAVEN's appearance at the Keep It True V festival, held on November 5 at Tauberfrankenhalle in Lauda-Königshofen, Germany, have been posted online at this location.
